The City of London played host to the most spectacular New Years celebration the UK has ever witnessed. The event, sponsored by LG, saw an estimated 180,000 people party the night away along the River Thames against an incredible sequence of fireworks, centered on the London Eye, with messages of goodwill from iconic personalities - making it a night to truly remember.
As sponsor of London's 2008 New Years Eve fireworks display and patron of the Princes Trust, LG worked closely with the charity to bring international stars such as Rod Stewart, Rio Ferdinand, Ricky Gervais, Michael Caine, The Simpsons and UK Gold Medallist Christine Ohuruogu along to the party. Goodwill messages from the Mayor of London and celebrities were beamed onto the Shell building via the world's tallest video projection, enhancing the experience for all who attended.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson says, "Central London has some of the best bars, restaurants and hotels in the world. I can think of no better city to spend New Year's Eve and our fireworks should remind Britain and the world of the joys and charms of this city all year round. I'm particularly keen to remind the global business elite that London offers them unique opportunities and an inimitable lifestyle. Even these tough economic times cannot detract from the wealth of architecture, culture, gastronomy and people which make London the best city in the world to work, rest and play."
