What You Need to Know about Video

What is Blu Ray?

The Picture

This next generation optical disc format brings you the highest Full HD 1080p experience. That means it allows you to get the best picture quality available from your HDTV. It even improves old DVDs. 1080p upscaling improves their picture quality so they look their best in Full HD.

The Capabilities

Blu Ray utilizes the latest laser technology, offering up to 5 times the digital detail of traditional DVDs. More detail means more room for cool features and extra content.

The Sound

Blu Ray lets you enjoy the best sound available for your entertainment. Supports the latest advanced digital audio formats for stunning and realistic surround sound.

What Do The Letters "DVD" Actually Stand For?

DVD stands for “Digital Versatile Disc”. DVDs can be used for storing video, audio, still image, or computer data. Many people refer to DVD as a Digital Video Disc, however, technically, this is not correct.

What is HDMI?

However, an HDMI output, can transfer a digital video and audio source signal (such as from a DVD player) digitally, without conversion to analogue. This results in a pure transfer of all of video information from the digital video source to a HDMI or DVI (via a connection adapter) equipped TV. In addition, HDMI can transfer both video and audio signals.

The Upscaling Process

1080i represents 1,920 pixels displayed across a screen horizontally and 1,080 pixels down a screen vertically. This arrangement yields 1,080 horizontal lines, which are, in turn, displayed alternately. In other words, all the odd lines are displayed, followed by all the even lines.

What is the purpose of DVD Regions?

The purpose of DVD Regions is to allow motion picture studios to control several aspects of their DVD movie releases, including content, release date, and price.
