LG Electronics lends financial support to primary schools in poor areas that are located in underprivileged regions of Asia such as China and Thailand. The company helps repair or reconstruct worn-down school facilities, providing the schools with items such as desks, chairs, physical education supplies, TVs, and computers. In addition, LG Electronics presented the "Experience the Culture of the Capital" event, offering students from rural villages in underprivileged regions of China a precious opportunity to visit their country's capital city and national monuments such as the Great Wall and Tienanmen. The company also invited the students to its Research and Development Center in Beijing, so that they would have an opportunity to improve their understanding of science and technology.
These schools are called "LG Hope Schools." This term was coined by an LG Electronics-sponsored school that had named itself the "LG Hope School" in appreciation of the company's contributions. Since then, use of this term has spread far and wide.
There are five "LG Hope Schools" in the province of Shenyang, five in Nanjing, and three in Tianjin. Thanks to sponsorship from LG Electronics, these schools have been supplied with educational resources and materials. LG Electronics strives to be a compassionate, corporate company that contributes to the well-being of the local community. As part of its social contribution efforts to the regions where the LG schools are located, the company offers PDP TV sets to the nursing homes and public facilities, renovates outdated equipment, and offers free electronics repair services to local residents.
LG Electronics sponsors Chun Feng Elementary School in Taichou, China.
The LG Aesim Laboratory School, which means "school of love," was formerly named "Chun Feng Elementary School." Founded at the beginning of the 1950s, it is a small-sized rural village school, where 12 teachers are currently teaching 215 students.
Most of the students have been subject to considerable hardship due to the underprivileged living conditions and the poor standard of educational resources and materials. The desks and chairs became so old and worn that they were uncomfortable for the students to use.
LG Electronics Taichou decided to actively support the "LG Aesim Laboratory School" by donating chairs, desks, educational resources and materials to the school.
LG Electronics' efforts were welcomed with an enthusiastic response from local government officials. The school principal, teachers, and the parents of the students were astonished and delighted by the fact that a non-Chinese company was willing to lend such support to the school.
Given that the bright and innocent eyes of children in unfavorable conditions nevertheless reflect the possibility of a brighter future, LG Electronics will continue to plough on with its social contribution efforts
