Junior Science Class

The researchers of LG Electronics perform field volunteer work, acting as science teachers for the day and promoting the "fun" of science for youngsters who are breadwinners at home or for children in the social welfare center. In this science class, they explain the theory of electronics to children in an easy and interesting manner and — on the basis of this theory — they encourage the children to create something through hands-on experimentation in order to teach them the principles behind technology. Teachers try to captivate the children with their explanations and various experiments.

For example, they perform activities like "Creating Shiny Frames," putting the characteristics of lights and optical fibers into practice by using an optical fiber and an acrylic bar; "Making Powered Model Planes," during which students are introduced to the characteristics of sound, and find out how electricity is generated by pressure and how it is utilized; and "Making Powered Model Planes," during which students get to create an airplane to learn about its structure and scientific principles.

Jae-hun Lee, a senior researcher from the LG Electronics-DS Research Institute said "I was familiar with the mechanism of the light as I developed the optical storage. I was very happy to teach the children about the rectilinear quality and refraction of the light and perform experiments in class, showing the children that science is all around us in our daily lives." Lee also added that he felt "rewarded and very proud to provide educational volunteer services, which allowed me to make use of my professional expertise."

LG Electronics' researchers will continue to help make their fun-filled science education lessons accessible and enjoyable for all children.
