About LG

The system ensures that eco-design is correctly executed through an eco-index. The eco-index evaluates how well eco-design has been executed in terms of the efficient use of resources, improvement of recyclability and energy efficiency, and reduction in the use of hazardous substances. The degree of success is determined by a numerical value.
With regard to energy consumption, the system evaluates how much the weight or volume of a product has been reduced, whether or not water consumption has been lowered, how long the life cycle (term of guarantee) is, whether or not recycled substances were used, whether or not the parts are recyclable, and whether or not natural substances were used. In terms of improving recyclability, the system examines the quantity of material used, the weight of the recyclable parts and the number of tools necessary for disassembling the product, any requirements for special tools, the number of standard parts, and the number of parts overall. In terms of energy efficiency, the system checks standby electricity and consumable electricity as well as the emission of greenhouse gases.
In terms of hazardous substances, the system examines the use of the following hazardous substances that are regulated by LG Electronics: Pb, Hg, Cr+6, Cd, PBB, PBDE, BFR (Brominated Flame Retardants), PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds), chemical refrigerants, Ni (Nickel), Sb (Antimony). The system also examines whether or not unnecessary weight or volume has been added during other processes, such as packaging, and whether or not recyclable materials were used. After the examination, the system performs the evaluation.
