Leading Digital Products of LG Electronics Receives Germany's IF Design Awards 2002

LG Electronics' cutting-edge digital products were selected as the recipients of main awards of IF Design Awards 2002 given by Germany's International Forum Design (IF), a world leading voice in industrial design for advanced digital products.
Germany's IF Design Awards celebrates 48th anniversary this year. Along with IDEA (Industrial Design Excellence Awards) of the U.S., IF Design Awards is one of the highest honors in industrial design recognized for its tradition and distinction. Germany's IF Association awards products with distinguished design every year and the winners earned the recognition as the products with the best design in Germany, Europe, and around the world. At this year's competition, over 1,900 products from 1,080 companies of 35 countries competed for the honor and in the end, a total of over 50 products were chosen as the winners of main awards.
At this year's competition, three products from LGE – 60-inch PDP monitor, GPRS Handset LG-510, 22-inch LCD monitor (Model: Flatron LCD 285LT), and Bellagio system line for built-in system kitchen appliances - won main awards.
The products will receive the awards at the awards ceremony held on March 13, the opening day of the CeBit Show - the world leading home appliance exhibition held every year in Hannover, Germany. During CeBit, the products will be displayed at the IF booth located at the center of the exhibition venue.
The award winners are: ▶ 60-inch PDP Monitor – The monitor can be installed in a variety of ways - on the ceiling, as a stand, wall-hanging and as a mobile unit to help viewers create a new life style. It has simple design and silver color to maximize its interior effect. Visual thickness was kept at a minimum by separating the front, center, and back materials to highlight the product's image as a cutting-edge display.
▶ 22-inch LCD Monitor – This large screen multimedia monitor with TV tuner and detachable speakers can receive digital TV signals gives a sleek image as the latest-edge product by using aluminum and metal silver color. It’s transparent plastic banner between the LCD panel and the main body of the product adds to the product’s clean line. It also has LG’s unique Soft Sensor button so that operation is made easy with just a touch of your fingertips.
▶ Bellagio System Line – Consists of refrigerator, gas oven cooker, dish washer and DRUM washing machine, signaling the coming together of kitchen appliances emphasizing consistency and harmony with each other. With luxurious stainless steel as the basic material, terracotta red is used as the accentuating color to express elegant individuality while avoiding subdued black and white designs of the past. In particular, it is the world's first product to use horizontal handle on a refrigerator.
▶ GPRS Handset LG-510 - LG-510 is LGE’s ultra slim GPRS folder-type mobile handset that is only 15mm. This elegantly design handset gives off a luxurious image by using top quality materials. LG-510 is a light-weight 78g handset offering innovations from various ergonomic UIs (User Interface) and designed with consideration to user convenience with one hand.
After establishing a design research center in Dublin, Ireland as a part of a more globalized approach to design in 1991, LGE also built a global design network linking this with other overseas design centers in New Jersey (1993), California (1999), Tokyo (1993), and Beijing (1998) to respond proactively in the latest trends of global design and to develop designs that meet customer preference of the global market.
