LGE Production Engineering Research Center is Introducing LG’s Own Unique Production Control Software to the U.S. Market
- A program maximizing production efficiency with optimum production line configuration and production process - Already proven technology∼improving average monthly productivity of 25 LG overseas subsidiaries by 15% - To be introduced to the U.S. market via Protech - a U.S. based software vendor
LGE Production Engineering Research Center is exporting its own technology to the U.S. market. The FLB (Flexible Line Balancing) program - a proven production control software that improves production productivity by 15% - developed with the research center’s own technology will be introduced to the U.S. market late this month through a supply agreement with Protech (http://www.protech-ie.com), an industrial consulting and software vendor based in the U.S.
The FLB software to be introduced to the U.S. market is the fruit of two years of R&D efforts from 1998 by the LGE Production Engineering Research Center. It is a cutting-edge process control program that improves production productivity by increasing line operation efficiency.
With the help of the FLB program, production line optimization can be ensured when designing new assembly lines or improving existing ones. Furthermore, with the consideration of various change factors at the production site, the program also allows users to quickly determine the optimum number of process steps and input resources to further increase efficiency of production operation and management.
As the program is Windows-based, data entry and editing for text and graph editing is made very simple. Calculated line optimization results are also available in diagrams or graphs to offer the information in a user-friendly, easy-to-read format.
The LG Air Conditioner Company, which has been using the FLB program (Korean version 3.0) since September last year, increased its monthly average productivity by 15% whereas LGE’s AV Company in Shanghai, China which has been using the English version of the software since early this year also benefited from the software with 18% reduction in cost. LGE began trial operation of the program in a total of 25 of its foreign subsidiaries in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Latin America since June last year with resounding success.
Encouraged by the clear evidence of the leading edge performance of the program as shown in its implementation in LGE’s companies in and out of Korea, the LGE Production Engineering Research Center launched the program in the international market from the latter half of this year, culminating in the recent 2-year supply agreement with Protech of the U.S. LGE plans to kick off aggressive local marketing campaigns from late this month to expand the supply of the program in the U.S. to realize annual sales of over US$3 million.
