Nam K. Woo, President and CEO of LG Electronics China Headquarters, is recognized as "a man of exceptional insight" in the industry. He played a pivotal role in positioning LG Electronics as the top global digital electronics brand by taking maximum advantage of the digital revolution and globalization of the late 90's and early 2000's. Previously, he held key sales and marketing positions in LG Electronics both within Korea and in the United States and the experience made him "the man behind LG's great success."

As President and CEO of LG Electronics Digital Display and Media Company from 1999 to 2004, Nam K. Woo led the transformation of LG Electronics into a global digital electronics brand from a Korean consumer electronics maker. During his presidency, the company concentrated efforts in excelling in flat-panel plasma, liquid-crystal displays, optical storage devices and digital television. The strategy was a success and it has provided sufficient momentum to accelerate the growth of the company, making it one of the biggest electronics giants in the world.

Nam K. Woo also served as President of LG Electronics North American operations and LG Electronics USA, Inc., from 1995-2000. When the company became the majority owner of Chicago-based Zenith Electronics Corporation, he served on Zenith's Board of Directors beginning in 1995 and as Chief Operating Officer in 1997.

From 1990 to 1995, Nam K. Woo acted as a pioneering business executive as President of European Operations. He established LG Electronics as one of the first global companies to successfully conduct business in formerly-Communist Eastern-bloc countries, while expanding business activities in Western Europe.

Nam W. Woo was honored by the Korean government with the Golden Tower Order of Industrial Service merit award in 2003, the highest honor recognizing outstanding achievement in the Korean electronics industry. Other honors include the Korean Management Association's New Millennium Award in 2000 and the Vietnamese government's Labor Decoration in 2001.

Before assuming his current role, Nam W. Woo served as Visiting Scholar at Columbia University's School of Business, New York City, and at the Asia-Pacific Research Center at Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif. His role as guest lecturer, researcher and adjunct professor is built on his three decades of global management experience and high-tech expertise.

Nam W. Woo earned his bachelor's degree in physics from Seoul National University and his master's in business administration from the same university. His passions include wine, golf and, of course, technology. He and his wife, Sunshine, have two grown children, a son and a daughter.

Management based on "Chunshi (heaven-appointed time),"
"Jiri (geographical advantage)," and "Inhwa (harmony among people)"

There is an old saying that great success will only come when it entails "Chunshi," "Jiri," and "Inhwa." At the moment, LG Electronics has two of the above-mentioned factors on its side. As the electronics industry is shifting from analog to digital, there is an expansion of new business opportunities (heaven-appointed time), which coincides with the Korean electronics industry's "geographical edge" due to its location between China and Japan. The country of Japan used to be considered as the world's strongest electronics power but is now undergoing huge restructuring and China, which sees itself hot on the heels of Korea, is still lagging far behind in terms of world-class standards.

If we can learn to take advantage of the "Chunshi" and "Jiri" mentioned above with the "Inhwa" we posses, I am sure that success is within our reach. "Inhwa," mentioned here are our professional skills and a partnership, supported by shared modesty, kindness, and class. I am doing my best to achieve great success with "Chunshi," "Jiri," and "Inhwa," through innovative, performance-based activities.

alternative measures. He leads business meetings armed with reliable data and facts, and studies relevant documents meticulously in order to ensure accuracy in his judgment.

Aiming to Make LG Electronics No. 1 through Partnership Management
What examples of partnership do we encounter on a daily basis? I believe that a true partnership involves modesty, kindness, and class. A man with many partnerships is always modest and kind. The kind of true modesty mentioned here is something that automatically manifests itself outwardly when you are equipped with inner passion and skills. However, modesty that lacks passion and skills is not modesty but cowardice. If you possess passion and skills on the inside and are modest on the outside, you have every chance of securing successful partnerships. I will strive to embrace this partnership to achieve win-win strategies.

Modesty is the external expression of partnership. Such modesty comes from competence and self-confidence. "No. 1 — LG Electronics" begins with the expression of self-confidence. You can build up your self-confidence when you work honestly and have the corresponding result evaluated properly. I try to make a point of acknowledging notable performance by giving out exceptional rewards. Individuals should strive to ensure that their superior performance is evaluated and recognized properly.

Fostering Great Talents that can Adjust to Change
The world is constantly changing. If we do not forecast nor respond properly to future changes, we will surely go out of business. I am striving to bolster my capabilities, and subsequently foster the best talents, capable of responding effectively to the demands of the future. Also, in order to respond positively to the digital revolution, I am encouraging the talents of R&D employees so that the company can benefit from skills in software engineer processes and technologies.

I am endeavoring to nurture disciplined, dedicated, and talented employees. "Disciplined people" are those who are equipped (in their given field) with the kind of skills necessary for our company to join the ranks of the world's top three companies. "Dedicated people" are those who work passionately to realize their individual visions, in line with the company vision.
